Undress Me (NSFW – Part 7)

Lily stamped the snow off her boots on to Jake’s welcome mat. Locking the door behind him, he helped her out of her coat and hung it on the stand next to his. She rubbed her palms together, cupping and blowing on to them.

‘Better?’ Jake asked. Lily nodded.

‘Much better, thanks.’

‘Do you want some tea?’

‘I’d love some tea!’ she said, ‘What have you got?’

Jake switched the light on and made his way into the kitchen. It was a surprisingly spacious apartment, cosy yet sleek with its dark, monochrome furnishings and sleek, silver picture frames on the living room table. Every bit the bachelor pad, Lily thought to herself. Looking around, she drank in every detail. It was a nice place, she thought, feeling strangely at home yet still like an outsider. Her stomach gave a little flutter.

‘Lily?’

Lily shook her head from her thoughts. Jake was staring at her expectantly, holding up two different boxes of tea.

‘Yeah, sorry I was miles away. What?’

‘I’ve got Camomile,’ he held up one box, ‘Peppermint and just normal tea.’ Lily pointed to box on her left.

‘Camomile please.’ she said. Jake smiled and Lily’s belly fluttered once again. The way that smile lit up his eyes made it feel as if he was staring straight into her. It made her feel vulnerable, and it both excited and frightened her, like he could see her every thought.

‘Camomile it is!’ He turned to grab the kettle, ‘You don’t have to stand on ceremony. Make yourself at home.’

‘You don’t want any help?’ she asked. She saw Jake’s shoulder shake with amusement in the dim kitchen light.

‘With two cups of tea, I think I’ll be just fine.’ he chuckled. Lily’s lips twisted up into a defiant little grin.

‘I don’t know,’ she tilted her chin up at him, ‘After all that heavy lifting backstage, you sure?’ Jake turned to her with a grin that was attempting to be stern, but failed miserably.

‘Go on!’ he laughed, waving his hand at her, ‘Shoo to the couch, that’s an order!’

They drank their herbal nightcaps on the soft, worn brown couch, laughing and joking like they had in the crew room. Lily smiled as Jake took a sip of his black tea. His arm was sprawled round the back of the couch and she had her feet tucked up. The camomile soothed her nerves from earlier, wondering how she’d get home in the cold when most roads had been cut off for the snow.

‘Thank you, by the way.’ Lily murmured. Jake took another sip of tea.

‘What for?’ he asked, setting his mug down on the coffee table.

‘For letting me stay here tonight.’ she said, feeling heat rise up her neck into her cheeks. ‘It was really sweet of you to offer.’

‘And leave you to freeze?’ he said, ‘I couldn’t exactly do that.’

‘Well you could have, but I wouldn’t have forgiven you.’

‘Yeah and I wouldn’t have heard the end of it!’ Jake shuffled up closer as he picked up his mug again, taking a liberal gulp. Warmth radiated from his body and Lily fought the painstaking urge to fully sidle up to him. Jake slid back into the couch, his arm hanging loosely off the back. Their shoulders touched and Lily rested her head back against his arm, heaving a tired sigh.

‘Hey, come here…’ He softly tapped her shoulder with his fingers, tipping her into his side. Lily’s heart gave a little leap as he pulled her into his torso, rubbing her shoulder in that reassuring way he did when she napped on him before. Her cheek grazed against the thick cotton of his hoodie, catching a faint waft of pine aftershave. He didn’t feel tense against her. A contented hum vibrated in his chest and Lily felt her eyelids flutter closed. It felt so…right.

‘Don’t go falling asleep on me now!’ Jake chuckled softly. A tired grin touched Lily’s lips as she sleepily gazed up at him. His eyes danced with hers, flitting between her eyes and her lips. A moment of silence passed between them, when Jake suddenly straightened up.

‘I best get some extra blankets.’ he said, squeezing her shoulder, ‘I can’t be cold on the couch tonight.’ Lily’s brow furrowed.

‘I’m not taking the couch?’ she asked. Jake shot her an incredulous look.

‘Lady always takes the bed.’ He stifled a laugh, ‘I like to think I can be a gentleman sometimes!‘ Lily straightened up, tucking her hair behind her ears.

‘Well, I can’t have you freezing your arse off on the couch, no matter how much of a gent you are!’ she said. Jake’s brow quirked up.

‘Miss Lily, are you trying to tempt me into my own bed?’ he joked. A flush of hot embarrassment rushed through her from top to toe. If she wasn’t crimson before, she certainly was now.

‘You know what I meant!’ She playfully swatted his arm, ‘If you’re comfortable sleeping in your own bed with someone else in it, I’m fine with that as long as you keep warm. I’m not letting you be uncomfortable or get a cold just because of me!’

She saw the cogs going round in his mind. She felt like the silence lasted a lifetime.

‘You sure you’re comfortable with that?’ he asked. She nodded. Really, she felt more than comfortable at the thought, but she swatted the thought away. Her feelings aside, she really hated the idea of someone sacrificing their usual comfort just for her and she bunked in with friends before, regardless of gender and it be nothing but platonic. But it wasn’t platonic for her with Jake, not deep down anyway. She’d keep her feelings to herself, not let them make things awkward while she was under his roof.

‘Yeah.’ She stood up, smoothing down her trousers, ‘Come on, let’s get to sleep. It’s getting late.’
