Yes! Yes! Yes! Say hello to my new favourite lubes

Before we start, I just want to say that this review is in partnership with Yes: The Organic Intimacy Company, who have very kindly sent me a wonderful box of lubes to try and other goodies, as part of their Organic Intimacy Week Campaign. So a massive thank you to the team at Yes for being such wonderful folks to work with. All of the opinions in this post are my own.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now, you’ll know of my interest and active transition to be more sustainable and eco-friendly. I’ve made changes in my everyday life, one of which using reusable cloth pads and menstrual cup for my period.

So naturally, when I found out on my sustainability YouTube searches of an eco and body friendlier lube, my ears pricked up.

WHAT YES ARE ABOUT & CAMPAIGN

Yes are an intimate product company, formed in 2003, specialising in lubricants, intimate wash and moisturiser to tackle itching, burning and discomfort. Their products are certified organic, certified with the Soil Association, Vegetarian Society approved and work to provide something called ‘Product Purity’: to provide the most natural, safe and sustainable ingredients possible in their products, being certified by the aforementioned companies in doing so. Their packaging is relatively discreet and both their water based lube (YES WB) and their vaginal moisturiser (YES VM) to help tackle vaginal dryness, itching and irritation etc. is available on NHS prescription. This is part of their Yes Organic Intimacy Week campaign, where Yes talks and raises awareness about the importance of organic, sustainable ingredients, and their stance on certification by reputable third parties, to protect both planet and consumer in the sourcing, manufacturing and use of ingredients in their products. One part of their company ethos is products ‘free of animal ingredients and testing, parabens, glycerine, hormones and known skin irritants.’ Each product is different however, so it’s always best to double check.A SURPSISE IN THE MAIL!

So here’s what was included in this collection:

  • Information about the company ethos, with research to back up using more sustainable and body-friendly ingredients. Product guide. Product and info leaflet. Yes WB – Water based lube. Yes But – Water based lube for anal play/sex. Yes OB – Oil based lube made with plant based oils. Company stickers. Yes tote bag. (I mean come on, who doesn’t like a bag that says ‘Making Vaginas Happy’ on it?!)Card from the Yes team. Massive thanks, the card was so sweet!

The collection came in a cardboard box and wrapped in white paper, so both can either be reused or recycled, plus the protective foam-like nuggets are made from potato starch, so fully biodegradable. So all round, a very good start!

YES OB

YES OB

YES OB was the first of the three lubes I tried. A quick an important disclaimer: this oil based lube is NOT compatible with condoms. This is stated in the product guides and on the packaging itself. Like most, if not all oil based lubes, it can make condoms break, leaving you more susceptible to an unplanned pregnancy or STI.And don’t ditch the condoms to use this, you need your protection! So for solo use, or sex with a committed partner where you’ve both been tested, go ahead! As me and my boyfriend use condoms as our birth control, we couldn’t use this for sex. YES OB was sent to me in its own cardboard packaging, coming in at 80ml and available for £9.99GBP. It is marketed is as a ‘dual based intimate lube and massage oil’, a ‘natural plant oil based alternative to silicone lubricants’, safe to use with silicone toys, richly nourishing ‘providing soothing relief’ and perfect for ‘prolonged lovemaking’ and ‘water play’.Ingredients include Vitamin E, sunflower oil, sweet almond oil, shea butter, cocoa seed butter and bees wax.THE REVIEW

Using this product for some solo play, I was very pleased to say the guarantee of long-lasting rich texture was not a flimsy promise, as I’ve seen with so many lubes before. I was able to use this easily both penetrative and non-penetrative with my hands. After use, I didn’t feel sticky residue, but felt thoroughly moisturised and didn’t feel irritation. For someone with sensitive skin, who, when trying new mainstream lubes, has experienced burning on first use, to not do with this was much welcome on my part!It glided smoothly over my skin, wasn’t sticky in use, and true to its promise, was long lasting throughout my self-administered pleasure. The texture feels like a good, heavy duty moisturising balm, but not one that goes tacky. From the feel, you can tell it’s been well made.Plus it’s worked really well on some sore muscles I’ve had from workouts recently. It’s definitely one I like and would recommend, if you’re looking for an oil based product.

YES WB

YES WB

I first heard of Yes WB when perusing sustainable content online, primarily through Sustainably Vegan on YouTube, who has recommended it as a more sustainable lube for sex, and helping with inserting a menstrual cup respectively. Yes WB is marketed as water based, silky lubricant that feels like natural lubrication and is pH balanced to the vaginal pH, which in their product guide, allegedly can help protect against yeast and bacterial infections. It is also said to rapidly relieve dryness and discomfort, is gynaecologist recommended and hypoallergenic. Like all these lubes, this is not a contraceptive or spermicide, so please use condoms and practice safe sex. It is compatible with natural rubber latex and polyisoprene condoms, and safe to use with sex toys. This product comes in at 100ml and available for £9.99GBP. THE REVIEW

So I first used this product for solo play. I enjoyed how smooth this worked over my skin. With other lubes I’ve tried, they have tended to be quite thick and dry quickly, leading you to use more and more just to have decent amount of lubrication. But with this one, it wasn’t thick, nor was it watery. The texture was smooth, glided along my skin easily and blended well with the natural lubrication my vagina produces (or more so in my case) when aroused. I didn’t feel irritation nor did it really have much of a smell, which ticks a box for me.It claims to be non-sticky, and it is, but I’d say more slightly tacky before sinking more into the skin, feeling more moisturising than anything else. As opposed to other lubes I’ve used where it feels more like a thin layer of glue drying on you.During sex, this lube was an absolute charm. A bit of this indeed goes a long way. I used a rather generous dollop, and it definitely mimicked, or at least worked with, rather than against, my own natural wetness (I’m trying really hard not to break into song with WAP right now!) I didn’t have to use extra lube, like I usually do. Easily, it’s the best lube I’ve used for sex, hands down. Asking what my boyfriend thought of it, he said: ‘It’s rather good!’ Which, from him, who has skin more sensitive than my own, is a big compliment! So this has definitely got the boyfriend seal of approval!

YES BUT

YES BUT – ANAL LUBE

First of all, I love the play on words there. My compliments to the person in marketing! As you’ve already gathered from the heading, YES BUT is a water based lube, specifically designed for anal play.It is marketed in the product guide as: ‘A rich and sensuous, water-based anal lubricant gel which moisturises and lubricates intimate tissues. YES BUT is iso-tonic and pH balanced for anal sex, to enhance sexual pleasure and sensitivity.’As well, like Yes WB, it’s compatible with natural rubber latex and polyisoprene condoms, and sex toys, hypoallergenic, non-sticky, odourless and tasteless, with a ‘sublime, velvety texture for a smooth glide.’ This product sent was 100ml and is available for £9.99GBP. One of the soothing ingredients included is aloe vera. THE REVIEW

I was a little apprehensive at first about how I was going to use this lube, given my experiences with IBS and anal play. Also given my recent flare-ups, anal sex just wasn’t going to happen. However, that doesn’t mean I couldn’t use it externally. So what I decided to do, was use the lube for external massage. I have to say, again, that this lube is good. Like YES WB, it is water-based, but the texture is a little thicker. Again, it’s not so much sticky, but more moisturising. The product is guaranteed a smooth velvety glide, and I can attest to this. The glide is smooth. The texture’s not cloggy or gloupe-like, but still dense enough to say a bit goes a long way and more suited, to me anyway, for anal sex. But obviously, with any kind of anal play, lube is your best friend. It’s the first lube specifically for anal I’ve ever used, and as first impressions go, I’m definitely looking forward to using this when I’m able to have full anal sex again. CONCLUSION & THANKS

Overall, I absolutely love these, and I don’t say that lightly. These products are good and the company seems to really done their homework on ingredients, sustainability and working to be as transparent with their customers as possible. As someone with sensitive skin, especially around my vulva and vagina, these are some of the kindest, if not the kindest, products I’ve used there. For anyone looking for a more friendly and sustainable alternative, Yes is definitely a company to look at. I’m looking forward to using these products more and looking at their other products on offer. Also, once more a massive thank you to Yes for partnering with me on this post as part of their Organic Intimacy Week Campaign. Check out their campaign details here.
